Design of a radio frequency quadrupole for a high intensity heavy-ion accelerator facility

We report a design work of continuous-wave (cw) radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) for the injector linac High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility project. The rf and multiphysics analysis were conducted to enhance long-term stability reliability cavity. To minimize peak modified Poynting vector surface electric field associated with breakdown rate, cross section vanes segmentation RFQ cavity optimized. Pi-mode stabilizing loops (PISLs) adopted increase mode separation between neighboring dipole modes, intending reduce emittance growth beam loss caused by asymmetry mode. Due lack universal criterion acceptable separation, was directly used as PISL. Tuners designed tune longitudinal flatness. Thermal distributions on tuners without sealing investigated, we found that indispensable in decreasing tuner's temperature. A carried out maintain while running different power, an attempt avoid frequently adjusting cooling water temperature when accelerating ions. also verified large wall thickness could make possess low stress minor deformation.
